White Wire Mod Pictures

August 16th, 2008

Below are a couple of pictures of the so called White Wire Mod that Buelligans talk about. Worth doing on 2007 and earlier XB9’s. The wire is used to send a signal from the speed sensor to the ECM. The ECM then introduces a flat spot around 3000 rpm so that the bike can meet the noise regulations that many countries employ. Removing this wire obviously stops this flat spot occurring and thus makes the engine run smoother around the 3000rpm mark. This in turn makes basic maneuvers like overtaking easier and general on/off throttle smoother…

Pic 1 shows the grey connector that you need to locate under the saddle. Pull out the plug and take the bottom of the plug apart. That then allows you to gain access to the underside of the pins. The white wire is easily pushed out of the plug using a small flat head screwdriver. Obviously be careful not to damage the pins in any way. Some people cut this wire but I removed it so that I could reverse the process if required with minimal fuss.

Pic 2 shows the same grey plug with the white wire removed and tucked back into the wiring loom. Please note that the separate white wire I’m holding back is NOT the white wire we’re talking about in this article.

Thanks have to go out to the members of UKBEG and Steve Turnbull for providing me with the information prior to performing the mod to my own bike.

  • do you know if this mod works on an 08 city-x?

  • Hi Tom

Unfortunately I believe this mod is only applicable to Euro and Australian spec 2007 and earlier models. The guys on the tech forum on UKBEG should be able to confirm this for sure though.
