Buell 1125r
March 8th, 2009
Things have been a bit quiet on here over the past month or so. Sorry…
I’ve been busy investigating my next bike purchase and after hours days of looking at magazines and surfing the interweb looking for information I have settled on a new 2008 Buell 1125r. Blackbear, my local Buell dealership kindly loaned me their demo bike for 70 miles a few weeks back. Needless to say, it was a phenomenally fast machine that rode and steered very well. The seating position whilst sporty seemed to be comfortable and the protection offered by the fairing was excellent.
I have read all sorts about this bike as I’m sure you all have. Its not been that good and it was all down to a slight error between Buell and the engine manufacturer Rotax. Rotax were using euro calculations for the fuelling and Buell were using US calculations. This basically meant that the engine ran like a dog from new and very hot. Fast forward 1 year and the fuellings sorted so this thing now rides like it should.
So what does this all mean. Well to me it means I have ordered a 2008 spec bike with all the 2009 improvements retro fitted to it. Blackbear will upload the fixed firmware to the onboard computer, fit the 2009 spec dash board to fix the known issue with battery drain if you use the pin based security protection and they are also gonna supply me with a couple of spare LED indicators just in case the rears blow whilst I’m out and about. All in all its a pretty good package and I get to ride a machine thats a real hoot that hardly no one else in the UK has bought so far. To give you an idea, the bike I have ordered is only the 2nd one Blackbear have sold since launch last year!
Delivery date of the new machine is next Friday the 13th!!! Lets hope its not a bad move. This obviously means that my current Buell, the City-X is going as a part exchange
Shame really coz its a very good underrated bike with loads of grunt and 50+mpg!
So, as of next Friday the blog is back on for another year with loads of pictures of the 1125r to view…

Bought an ’09 1125r model 6 months old with 1200 miles on the clock in January from Robinhood Harley. It was an ex Buell company bike (not ex demo/track day bike) and I got it for £4500…what a bike and what a deal! Whatever problems they had at first, they obviously ironed and sorted them out. Loads of low down grunt and a pretty good top end as well, as I’ve so far managed just under 160mph but ran out of road. She does tend to get quite light on the front end after 140+mph. Brakes are nice and positive and sharp if needed. Handling is quick and feels firm and well planted in corners. Acceleration is as quick as anything else I’ve been on, and Ive ridden a few in my time. All in all a fantastic bike that is not common and I feel proud to own. I’m gonna keep this baby for a few years and may even store it when finished with.
