1125r just wants to go
May 4th, 2009
7 or so weeks in now with the ‘R’ and its going so well. The bike really wants to be ridden hard. I’ve really enjoyed the time in the saddle so far and have squeezed 1250 miles out of it already. I’m averaging 39 mpg which is acceptable I suppose. Would have preferred 45 average but you cant have your cake and eat it can you. I’m not riding it with economy in mind if you know what I mean
Done the odd trip from Cambridgeshire in to central London and I really reckon its a good long distance bike. You can sit there in 6th gear from 44 upwards and just pull away as and when the road in front clears away. Cruising at speed is very easy even with a strong head wind. You just sit back, relax and let the miles slip by. Another massive bonus for me is that the 1125 is a much dryer bike when the conditions are bad. My old XB was sooo bad as per my complaints in previous posts and this is sooo good to the point that I have been caught out a couple of times with only my biker jeans on and have arrived home dry. There is a benefit to that large front fairing you know…
Build quality is good too. My old XB had already started to tarnish by 1000 miles even though it received the same weekly wash and scrub down that the 1125 has. I’ve fitted a ram mount to the left side clutch fluid reservoir and that’s enabled me to use my Garmin Nuvi 250. This isnt a bike specific GPS but due to the amount of shielding from the fairing it stays perfectly dry. Obviously if conditions are really bad I don’t use it coz I don’t want to kill it if you know what I mean.
Sorry about the total lack of updates recently. Lifes been busy. If Ive not been at work ive been at home doing chores and enjoying time with the family. Maybe I’ll get a day out booked with my brother and his Triumph Rocket 111. Will I be able to contain my self though? His bike isn’t built for bends….
